2007 Old World Winery Fog Line Red Wine North Coast, California WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $8.25 (from winery) Type: Merlot-Syrah blend Principal varietal(s): 70% Merlot, 30% Syrah Still youthful red/purple color. Opens with nose of deep dark cherry, broadens with airing to reveal touches of earthy, spicy red currant and blueberry fruit, a smokey charcoal edge, and a hint of violet-like floral notes. Light on its feet - almost has the feel of a Pinot Noir. Not as concentrated as many Old World Winery offerings, but nicely balanced and drinking well at age 7. At its peak right now. A truly interesting blend both in terms of the grapes (70% Merlot, 30% Syrah) and origins (Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma, Ukiah Valley in Mendocino). It is an absolute steal at the $99/case clearance sale price. Case-worthy. - HK 2014-04-05 [Back] |
