2008 Old World Winery Field Blend, Two Vineyards Sonoma County, California WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 12.9% Price at time of purchase: $8.25 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 64% Zin, 9% Petite Sirah, 27% Arbouriou The 2008 Old World Winery Field Blend is once again a variation from previous vintages: this one is a 64% Zin/9% Petite Sirah mix from Mounts Bench vineyard in Dry Creek combined with 27% Arbouriou from the Russian River. It also has a lighter touch than previous vintages - just 12.9% alcohol. But it is loaded with flavor and nicely balanced. The flavors are like a cross between a Zin and a savory Provencal wine. Initial impression of ripe cherry and dark berry along with toasty oak and bakery notes like a pie in the oven. There's also a nice edge of mint or evergreen that enlivens the nose along with a dry straw herbal/floral element. Round and harmonious in the mouth and finish. A medium weight wine that's very untiring on the palate. During the cellar clearance sale ($99/case), this wine is insanely well priced. - HK 2014-04-08 [Back] |
