2009 Old World Winery Fulton Folderol Two Vineyards Sonoma County, California WB Rating: 91 Alcohol by volume: 15.3% Price at time of purchase: $35.00 (from winery) Type: Zin blend Principal varietal(s): 50% Zinfandel, 50% Arbouriou (Early Burgundy) Another great Fulton Folderol from Old World Winery, though completely different from the lower-alcohol 2008. Again a blend of 50% Zinfandel from the Carrarro Vineyard in Dry Creek and 50% Arbouriou from the Sherri Martinelli vineyard in the Russian River Valley, this opaque purple wine is more similar to a full-flavored late-harvest Zinfandel, or more accurately, a lower-alcohol version of port. Huge density of fruit and flavor with a slightly sweet tone. Loads of prune, blueberry, and dark berry fruit along with roasted walnuts and dried herbs. Very rich and mouth-coating, but not so sweet that it doesn't pair well with rich dishes or cheese. [Price estimated.] - HK 2013-03-16 [Back] |
