1998 Onix Spain WB Rating: 86 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $10.00 (Current release) Type: Spanish red Principal varietal(s): Unknown A Spanish wine purchased at the recommendation of a wine newsletter. Not much information on the label, but may have similar grape components to Rioja, though its rustic mouth feel is closer to Carignane. Totally opaque black purple color. Very big-bodied, fat, and mouth-coating with loads of round tannin. Interesting flavors of kirsch, earth, tobacco, licorice, and an edge of sweet wet straw. Definitely a wine for strong foods: if you're having veal, don't even think about this one. - HK 2000-08-03 [Back] |
