1983 Opus One Napa Valley, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 12.0% Price at time of purchase: $0.00 () Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux Principal varietal(s): Bordeaux blend I've read disparaging remarks about early vintages of Opus One, and I never think of '83 as a good year in California, but this wine was a revelation. Deeply colored, richly flavored, absolutely fresh and drinking brilliantly at age 20! French-like in its elegance, but softer and more full-flavored than most (affordable) Bordeaux. As delicious as it was, it was not particularly complex or it would have been rated in the mid-90's. I find myself again indebted to Jim Colbert, who pulled this gem from the depths of his cellar to share. - WB team 2003-09-27 [Back] |
