1999 Organic Wine Works Zinfandel Lodi Lodi, California WB Rating: 85 Alcohol by volume: 17.0% Price at time of purchase: $15.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Port-level alcohol content does not really dominate the structure of this tasty if eccentric Zin. It is, surprisingly, not overly sweet or clumsy in texture. The flavors have a plum/prune/port-like focus along with touches of cherry-liqueur-filled chocolate. Interesting wine and fun to taste, but it is lacking in depth and complexity, and its high alcohol level and weight make it a hard-to-match wine with food. Probably best with cheese or chocolate. - WB team 2002-08-21 [Back] |
