2013 Joseph Phelps Eisrébe
Napa Valley, California

WB Rating: 91

Alcohol by volume: 8.0%
Price at time of purchase: $50.00 (winery)

Type: Scherebe
Principal varietal(s): Scherebe

Delectable dessert wine that is exceptionally rich but not at all cloying because of its bracing acidity. Penetrating flavors of ripe apricot, vanilla, candied peaches, caramel, cinnamon. I actually thought this wine was Muscat, but it ends up being pure Scherebe. My only complaint is the price. Like many premium California sweet wines, it's in the $100 range for 750ml, and that that puts it up above some awfully good Sauternes as well as some awfully good sweet Loire Valley and German wines. [$50 price is for 375 ml bottle.] - HK 2014-12-25
