2001 Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs Dry Creek, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 14.7% Price at time of purchase: $30.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 76% Zin, 17% Petite Sirah, 7% Carignane Ho hum. Another in a long line of elegant, beautifully balanced, rich, fruity Lytton Springs reds from Ridge. This one is still probably a year away from showing all its stuff, but already has that Lytton Springs silky mouth feel along with deep reserves of plum and cherry fruit, excellent balance among its fruit, acid, oak, and tannins, and a solid finish. If it bulks up a bit with age, we'll have under-rated it. For now, as delicious as it is, it lacks that extra layer of extraction and complexity that defines the 90+ pointers. - WB team 2003-03-25 [Back] |
