2001 Ridge Vineyards Three Valleys Sonoma County, California WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 14.4% Price at time of purchase: $17.99 (Whole Foods) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 50% Zin, 15% Petite Sirah, 15% Carignane, 11% Mataro, 9% Grenache This "low-end" (for Ridge) red was a nice surprise. Ripe red fruits (cherry, raspberry) and an attractive floral note were found in this a medium-bodied, flavorful wine. Though not long or complex, this wine had satisfying richness. It's a welcome addition to the Ridge lineup. - WB Exec Team 2003-11-15 [Back] |

[OW Holmes 2004-08-06] Sorry. I love Ridge. And as a rhone lover was prepared to love this one with nice quantities of rhone style grapes plus zin. Good floral nose to go with the blackberries, but there was a bitteness that I could not ignore. It hit me immediately, and now, an hour and a half later, I am tempted to pour out the remains of the bottle. Back to Geyserville and Lytton Springs for me, or Monte Bello. User Rating: 80. |
