2003 Ridge Vineyards Lytton Estate Late Harvest Dry Creek, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 86 Alcohol by volume: 16.1% Price at time of purchase: $0.00 (Library wine (from winery)) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 100% Zinfandel I infinitely prefer the regular Lytton Springs bottlings, but recognize that the winemaker has to make different choices when the grapes in a certain block get over-ripe. The 2.6% residual sugar has helped retain the fruit - plums, black cherry, and raisins are at the forefront - but has also, to my taste, sucked most of the vibrancy out this wine. Obviously well-made; just not my cup of tea. Definitely a dessert/cheese wine as opposed to a wine to be served with main courses. - HK 2009-08-13 [Back] |
