I've had two exceedingly different experiences with this wine - the score here represents the more positive tasting, and almost certainly the more accurate assessment. The first bottle sampled, purchased at a Washington, DC Safeway, was very disappointing and a complete mystery, and was ranked 84. Almost certainly an anomalous bottle, it was surprisingly bland, diluted, dry, austere, and basically uninteresting, and my opinion was shared unanimously by three other people sampling it with me. The second bottle, from the winery, was absolutely sensational - exactly what I would want a Zin to smell like, taste like, and feel like. Beautifully ripe but with no heaviness, as elegant and silky as a top rank Pinot Noir. Overflowing with deep dark cherry and wild berry fruit and exotic spiciness. Smells like a raspberry pie baking in the oven. Completely satisfying in the mouth and finish. Just sensational, and it has not yet reached its peak. - HK 2013-10-03
