An 12 year-old curiosity Zin, but surprisingly good in its old age. Our memory is that, when young, this wine was somewhat vegetal and not particularly pleasant (1988 was one of the worst years in memory for Zins.) At this advanced age, though, quite tasty, easy to drink, and enjoyable. Bright ruby color with some transparency, but no amber. Good, fresh jammy strawberry fruit with some tobacco and cedar notes that have appeared with age. Much lighter bodied than a typical young, blockbuster Ridge, but really quite elegant and drinkable. - HK 2000-11-27
