1989 Ridge Vineyards Zinfandel Jimsomare Santa Cruz Mountains, California WB Rating: 70 Alcohol by volume: 12.8% Price at time of purchase: $0.00 (Library wine) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel Jimsomare has always been the most claret-like of the Ridge Zins, and has rarely been one of my favorites, even when young. This ancient Zin still shows a completely youthful, deep red/purple color and possesses some admirable fresh cherry fruit, especially in the finish. But prior to the finish, the wine unfortunately shows far too much of that herbal, wet-wood, funky, high acid nature of a red over the hill. I have had this wine multiple times over its lifetime and always found it green and disjointed. At this point, it's also just too old. - HK 2008-11-20 [Back] |
