1991 Ridge Vineyards Zinfandel Paso Robles Paso Robles, California WB Rating: 92 Alcohol by volume: 14.9% Price at time of purchase: $15.00 (Library wine) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 100% Zinfandel Spectacular Zin even at age 9, at which point most Zins are distant shadows of their youthful selves. Beautifully balanced, glycerin-imbued, fruit-driven wine with intense flavors of mashed dark berries, licorice, and spice. Lingering finish. "Complexity out the wazoo!" exclaimed one WineBork. "Like a good Paso Robles reduced to its essence", said another. "48.8 second finish," added a third, fumbling with his stopwatch. This is great wine, and another indicator of how well the Ridge Paso Robles seems to hang in there with age. Seemed quite different from some of the Dusi Ranch Paso Robles Zins, in the sense of having much more berry than plum flavors. Great stuff, totally ready to drink. Do not hold on to this one; it's at its peak. - WB Team 2000-06-27 [Back] |
