1998 Ridge Vineyards Sangiovese Dry Creek Dry Creek, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 83 Alcohol by volume: 13.7% Price at time of purchase: $18.00 (ATP members) Type: Sangiovese Principal varietal(s): 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon Definitely not the typical Ridge red. High acid, tough-textured, with the texture and dusty tannin dominating the fruit. We're still wating for that magical Sangiovese event, but this wasn't it -- this reminded us, unfortunately, of most of the (affordable) Italian Sangioveses we have had. Not much concentration or finish, though there are some nice cherry fruit accents in the nose. Overall, a shadow of the extraction and pleasure level provided by virtually all the other Ridge reds.. - WB Team 2000-06-22 [Back] |
