1997 Ridge Vineyards Lytton Estate Syrah Dry Creek, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 14.6% Price at time of purchase: $22.00 (ATP members) Type: Syrah Principal varietal(s): 87% Syrah, 13% Viognier Deep, dark purple color. Extremely Rhone-style nose with roasted meat, bacon, and mysterious dark berry components. A hint of flower petals adds to the complexity. In the mouth, still tannic and evolving -- definitely an ager, and in this sense very different from most of the Zins we admire. We love the Lytton Estate Grenache and often prefer it to the Syrah, but this powerful Syrah is a definite winner. - HK 2002-05-13 [Back] |
