1998 Ridge Vineyards Geyserville Sonoma County, California WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 14.1% Price at time of purchase: $30.00 (Current release) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 74% Zin, 15% Petite Sirah, 10% Carignan, 1% Mataro Hard to believe, but this is the 33rd straight year that Paul Draper has produced this gem! Struck us as the most restrained of the '98 Ridge Zins at this point, not as forward or friendly as it will undoubtedly become in a year or two. Tasty if reticent flavors of strawberry jam, licorice, and dried herbs. Slightly higher acid feel than we're used to in this wine, actually somewhat Bordeaux-like in overall mouth impression. Good, elegant Zin, but it (along with the other Ridge Zins) is reaching the upper level of our pain threshold in terms of price.. - WB Team 2000-08-30 [Back] |
