1999 Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs Dry Creek, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 14.5% Price at time of purchase: $30.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 70% Zin, 17% Petite Sirah, 10% Carignane, 3% Mataro Impeccably balanced Zinfandel, as usual for Lytton Springs. Opaque, deep purple color. Rich, earthy, intense dark cherry, black currants, spiced strawberries, and licorice. Outstanding wine, but it pains us to see the Lytton Springs -- always the Winebork benchmark -- hit the $30 pain point for the first time. We'll never see another for under $30. In the world of pricey Zins, it's probably fairly priced -- but it sure makes it hard to drink wines like this very often. - WB Team 2001-08-01 [Back] |
