1981 Chateau Rieussec Sauternes Sauternes, France WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 14.0% Price at time of purchase: $0.00 (Library wine) Type: Sauternes Principal varietal(s): Sauternes blend Extremely rich, almost syrupy in texture. Perhaps edging past its prime - the acid spark isn't quite there in full to counterbalance the richness. Dominated by honeyed Botrytis notes, with aromas and flavors of creme brulee, butter, burnt sugar, caramel. Less multi-dimensional, I'm sure, that it was 10 years ago, but still an absolutely rich, flavorful, satisfyingly decadent dessert wine. - HK 2006-06-30 [Back] |
