2006 Rochioli Pinot Noir "Little Hill" Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 14.4% Price at time of purchase: $65.00 (from winery) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir This is a serious Pinot Noir that, despite other reviews I've read, I found still fairly tight and ungenerous at age 5. There is an excellent feel of underlying ripeness and richness, though, so perhaps the wine (or my palate) was just in a slightly crotchety stage when I tasted it this time. Classic Pinot aromas of dark cherry and pomegranate, with suggestions of flower shop hovering above. Balanced and elegant, but still showing some dusty tannins in the mouth. This will probably be superlative in a couple of years but I'd reserve judgment for now. - HK 2011-03-03 [Back] |
