1999 Rochioli Pinot Noir Estate Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 14.2% Price at time of purchase: $30.00 (from winery) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir This wine is what most Burgundies would like to be. Beaune-like weight and finesse, but without the dryness and lack of extraction of so many Burgundies. Excellent ripeness and balance. Rose petals, red raspberry, and spice highlight the nose. Ripe plums are most prominent in the moderately full and nuanced flavors. Not a powerhouse (which is rarely an attractive feature in Pinot Noirs anyway), but a delicious and balanced wine. Delicious now, doesn't strike me as a wine to cellar. - HK 2002-06-18 [Back] |
