2015 Rockpile Vineyards Zinfandel Botticelli Vineyard Rockpile, Sonoma County, California WB Rating: 92 Alcohol by volume: 16.0% Price at time of purchase: $60.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel Another in the stable of Wilson wineries, the Rockpile Vineyards brand specializes, obviously, in Rockpile-sourced wines. The Zins are made by the Pezzi King winemakers, and there is a lot of similarity between the Rockpile and Pezzi King Zins: big, bold, mouth-filling wines that don't hold back on sheer power and weight. The 2015 Botticelli Vineyard Zin is, despite its 16% alcohol, a well-balanced red with enough fruit to bury the alcoholic heat. Super-ripe, but not raisiny, with red fruits at the fore. Reminded me a bit of a good Sonoma Valley Zin like Pagani Ranch, avoiding the port-like taste that often comes from the big Dry Creek Zins. - HK 2018-03-22 [Back] |
