2001 Rosenblum Chateau La Paws Cote du Bone Roan California WB Rating: 86 Alcohol by volume: 13.8% Price at time of purchase: $10.00 (from winery) Type: Rhone-style Red Principal varietal(s): 70% Carignane, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 5% Grenache Despite the too-cute name, this is actually a pretty good imitation of a rustic Rhone red -- and it's bigger in structure and more complex than a lot of those. It has an attractive, Rhone-like nose of black fruit, licorice, chcoloate, tobacco and flowers. In the mouth, it is less interesting -- chunky and somewhat monolithic, with a moderatetly high acid level and some tannin in the finish. But fun wine to drink as a change of pace, and the price is excellent. - WB Team 2002-10-03 [Back] |
