2006 Russian Hill Syrah Top Block Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 91 Alcohol by volume: 14.8% Price at time of purchase: $25.00 (from winery) Type: Syrah Principal varietal(s): Syrah Russian Hill seems to me a totally under-rated and under-publicized source of outstanding and age-worthy Syrahs. The 2006 Top Block Syrah has lost any rough edges it ever had, but is absolutely fresh and lively at age 9. Exceptionally well-balanced and pure in feel, it has a load of dark berry, Cassis, and especially blueberry-liqueur-like flavors along with lovely notes of earth, spice, and violets. Totally harmonious in the mouth and finish, a delight to drink. Interesting, intense, yet not at all heavy or overdone. - HK 2015-09-15 [Back] |
