Russian Hill seems to me a totally under-rated and under-publicized source of outstanding and age-worthy Syrahs. The 2006 Top Block Syrah has lost any rough edges it ever had, but is absolutely fresh and lively at age 9. Exceptionally well-balanced and pure in feel, it has a load of dark berry, Cassis, and especially blueberry-liqueur-like flavors along with lovely notes of earth, spice, and violets. Totally harmonious in the mouth and finish, a delight to drink. Interesting, intense, yet not at all heavy or overdone. - HK 2015-09-15
