This Verdehlo (the grape used to make Madeira) is grown in the warm Alta Mesa region near Lodi. It's a flavorful and unusual wine. Attractive, piquant mix of fruits - especially apricot and grapefruit - along with caramel and spices vaguely similar to those in Gewurztraminer. Very full - it borders on being too heavy, especially as it warms up - and slightly sweet-feeling in the mouth, oily textured. Definitely needs to be served cold.
