Complexity and richness highlight this masculine-styled Gigondas. No obvious heat despite the 15.5% alcohol, but lots of ripe, chewy, briary fruit. There are cherry and super-ripe strawberry notes in the forefront, but this is backed by deep, spicy, smoky flavors of kirsch and berry liqueur and dried herbs. Beautifully balanced, with plenty of round tannins to make this age nicely. I've slowly drunk through half a case of this wine over the past several years, and it just seems to have gotten richer and deeper with age. I'm guessing it's just about at is peak at age 7. Wish I had another case or two of this wine! - HK 2016-03-10
