2006 Seghesio Barbera Alexander Valley, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 15.3% Price at time of purchase: $28.00 (winery) Type: Barbera Principal varietal(s): I don't remember the last Segehesio red I've had that I thought was anything less than outstanding. They have a magic touch with Zinfandel, but also with the Italian varietals. I loved this old-vine Barbera from Alexander Valley. It displays beautiful levels of deep, ripe cherry and plum fruit, lots of spiciness, and a chewy, rustic, warm-hearted personality. Like all Seghesio wines, it has that extra level of richness and a real sense of harmony with no hint of hotness. Delicious now, but with the balance to hang in there a few years if you have the willpower to hold out that long. - HK 2008-11-05 [Back] |
