2006 Seghesio Zinfandel Sonoma Sonoma County, California WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 15.4% Price at time of purchase: $16.99 (K&L) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): This broad-shouldered young Zin was fairly unexpressive when first opened, showing black licorice and bitter chocolate or espresso character, but with food and airing, opened up nicely. Serious depth in the earthy dark cherry and berry fruit, with a nice dose of black pepper, vanilla, and spice. As always, full-bodied and chewy in texture. A tad rough at this stage, should be great in another year or so. Well-priced for a Zin of this quality, and not all that far behind the great Seghesio single-vineyard Zins costing nearly twice as much. - HK 2007-12-09 [Back] |
