2010 Seghesio Zinfandel Home Ranch Alexander Valley, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 14.8% Price at time of purchase: $38.00 (From winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): The Home Ranch is usually my favorite of the Seghesio Zins, and that's true again in 2010. Beautifully balanced, rich without a shred of heaviness. Nose of dark berry liqueur, toasty oak, molasses, sweet spices. Pure and graceful feel to this wine that's not always found in Zinfandel. Outstanding texturally, with no harsh edges yet plenty of grip. In its drinkability sweet spot at age 4, and it should be there for several more years. Unfortunately for us consumers, once the historic Seghesio winery and brand was purchased by Crimson Group, the price of this Zin has gone from $38 to $58 overnight. So I've probably tasted my last Home Ranch. - HK 2014-10-31 [Back] |
