1999 Seghesio Zinfandel Cortina Vineyard Dry Creek, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 14.7% Price at time of purchase: $27.00 (The Wine Shop, Healdsburg) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel This wine was hard to judge since it did not possess the bright fruit level of some of the other Zins tasted with it. The wine is well made (as are all Seghesio Zins) and is certainly full bodied and possessed of classic Dry Creek earthiness. But its flavors, at least in this tasting lineup, seemed more dominated by earth, black pepper, licorice and even some tobacco than by the dark berry fruit submerged beneath the surface. It would be interesting to taste this wine on its own over the course of dinner. Its rating might edge up a bit if given a better chance to shine on its own. - WB Team 2002-07-11 [Back] |
