1980 Simi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Alexander Valley, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 13.9% Price at time of purchase: $15.00 (Library wine) Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux Principal varietal(s): Cabernet blend This 21 year-old Cab had an astonishingly deep, inky, youthful purple color, with no sign of amber. Completely fresh tasting, but unfortunately not in the same class as some other Simi Reserves we have tasted in terms of complexity. This one had fragrant cedar, tobacco, tar, and currants in the nose. The flavor profile was a bit one-dimensional, though, dominated by a sweet cranberry component. Good but not compelling Cab at this advanced age. - HK 2001-12-16 [Back] |
