2000 Domaine la Soumade Rasteau Cuvee Prestige Cotes du Rhone, France WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 14.5% Price at time of purchase: $12.99 (KI&L) Type: Rhone Principal varietal(s): Southern Rhone blend Big, meaty, alcoholic Rhone from the village of Rasteau. Much more powerful and ageworthy than the typical Cotes du Rhone, this wine is still in its infancy. The nose has both Burgundian and Chateauneuf du Pape characteristics, with lots of cassis, cherries, tart plums and a distinct woodsy component. Rich and still grapey in the mouth with acid and tannins still in the foreground. Should be fun to taste in another couple of years, but it's good now with full flavored meats. - HK 2004-06-19 [Back] |
