1997 St. Francis Zinfandel Old Vines Sonoma Valley, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 16.1% Price at time of purchase: $18.00 (Widely avail.) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel, with field blend of Petit Syrah, Alicante Bouchet Huge, alcoholic, oaky wine. Delicious, mouth-coating, almost cough-syrup density wine. Cherry, vanilla, tar integrated into a smooth, tasty whole. Not compex, but who cares? The power and oak are sufficient to keep the alcohol subdued, and to bury the tannin. The antithesis of one of Parker's "eviscerated" wines. This is what old vine zin is all about, but if you don't like oak, steer clear of this one! - WB Team 2000-04-19 [Back] |
