From high altitude vineyards on the northwest slope of the Mayacamas, this is an assertive and lively wine highlighted by mocha-tinged cassis-like fruit and a complex melange of dark floral aromas. black raspberry pie, and smokey spice. The wine spent 30 months in new French oak, but thankfully it has enough depth of fruit and structure to handle this load gracefully. In fact, at age nine the wine is still opulent and balanced, as well as utterly youthful and vibrant in color, flavor, and feel. This is a gorgeous Cabernet blend that's hitting its drinkability sweet spot. A really nice find from the Vinoteca cooperative in Santa Rosa. - HK 2016-05-15
