2006 Taft Street Pinot Noir Mendocino Ridge Mendocino Ridge, Mendocino County, California WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 14.5% Price at time of purchase: $36.00 (Winery) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir This $36 wine is at the top of the price list at Taft Street, which makes uniformly excellent wines at extremely reasonable prices - including this wine, which could easily sell for much nore at a lot of Russian River wineries. I like the elegant feel of this Pinot Noir - ripe, earthy deep cherry and plum fruit in the perfumed nose, good richness without any heaviness, soft and lingering finish. Overall feeling of elegance and harmony., though perhaps lacking a smidge in depth and length. All the Taft Street Pinots tasted recently at the winery (the others are well under $30/bottle) are excellent, especially the 2007's, but this was the pick of the litter. - HK 2009-08-26 [Back] |
