1991 Talenti Brunello di Montalcino Montalcino, Italy WB Rating: 88 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $0.00 (Library wine) Type: Italian Red Principal varietal(s): Brunello clone of Sangiovese This wine had some of the leathery texture that I sometimes find objectionable in Italian reds, but had much more richness and flavor interest than most. A rich, chewy red with some aging potential still left in it. The nose was a complex mix of cassis, smoke, and cherry-like fruit. In the mouth, still a little dry and tannic, but rich enough to provide some mouth-coating pleasure. I'm still waiting for that magical Sangiovese that will make me a convert to Italian wines, but this one is pretty close to the mark. - HK 2002-12-01 [Back] |
