2000 Thierry and Guy Shiraz "Fat Bastard" Vin de Pays d'Oc WB Rating: 77 Alcohol by volume: 12.5% Price at time of purchase: $9.99 () Type: Languedoc Principal varietal(s): Syrah This wine is trying to ride on the "Shiraz" varietal name and eccentric wine label to suggest it's some sort of big-time Aussie red. But this is instead a simple, generic, dry and dusty French Syrah from the Languedoc region. Some spicy cherry in the flavors, but overall rough and tannic in structure without much length or complexity. OK price, but for $10 you can do MUCH better, for example. with the Wynns Coonawarra Shiraz, which really does from from Down Under and has infinitely more flavor, body, and interest. - WB team 2004-06-20 [Back] |
