1991 Topolos Zinfandel Rossi Ranch Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 86 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $10.99 (Library wine) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel Tasted recently on two different occasions. Interesting and complex wine. Rossi Ranch seems to be one of the few Zins -- Storybook Mountain is another that comes to mind -- that occasionally develops interest with age (though the 1990 was a disappointment in this regard). The 1991 Zin is far better than when it was sampled several years ago. The fruit here is hard to define: blackberries or raspberries, intermingled with intriguing herbal/spicy/earthy notes -- sage and rosemary. Like all Rossi Ranches, very firm, higher in acid and lower in alcohol than the typical "fat" Zinfandel, but the structure works to its advantage. - WB Team 2000-04-28 [Back] |
