2006 Varner Wines Foxglove Chardonnay Edna Valley, California WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 14.5% Price at time of purchase: $9.99 (K&L) Type: Chardonnay Principal varietal(s): Chardonnay Like the 2005, a great value. In fact, I think the 2006 displays a bit more depth and complexity than the 2005. I don't know if this wine sees any oak, but if so it certainly not a major component in the aromas and flavors. Instead, this wine is dominated by ripe citrus, green apple, and subtle vanilla-like flavors and spiciness. Higher acid than most California Chardonnays, but well within bounds, and the acid gives the wine a crisp and focused feel that makes it a great food wine. Do not overchill this wine or the acid will get the upper hand on the fruit. - HK 2007-09-23 [Back] |
