1996 Verget Bourgogne Aligote Burgundy, France WB Rating: 86 Alcohol by volume: 12.0% Price at time of purchase: $10.00 (Premier Cru) Type: Chardonnay Principal varietal(s): Aligote Actually, this wine was free when purchased with the Zind-Humbrecht Herrenweg Gewurztraminer during one of Premier Cru's wonderful promotions, but it typically sells in the $10 range. At age five, amazingly fresh and tasty. Crisp and balanced (which is a broken record for Verget whites), with citrus, mineral, and nut-like flavors and a good, clean finish. A poverty-stricken man's Meursault? Excellent everyday white, though it is obviously not going to improve at this point. Not a Chardonnay, but close enough to be classed as one. - HK 2001-10-29 [Back] |
