1996 Verget Chablis Chablis, Burgundy, France WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 13.0% Price at time of purchase: $15.00 (Library Wine) Type: Chardonnay Principal varietal(s): Chardonnay This excellent wine is Verget's "bottom of the line" Chablis, so it would be a huge treat to try one of his Premier or Grand Crus! This is a classic crisp Chablis that is now rounding into its peak form. Several bottles tasted in previous years were good, though still a little steely and unevolved, but this one was right on the mark. Lemony gold color, with penetrating aromas and flavors of citrus, minerals, and caramel. There is also a nice yeasty note, like a delicious, de-bubbled Champagne. Served with steamed mussels, this was pretty much an ideal wine. - HK 2000-12-24 [Back] |
