1997 Villa Mt Eden Zinfandel Old Vines California WB Rating: 83 Alcohol by volume: 15.0% Price at time of purchase: $ (Current release) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 100% Zin Promising deep purple color, and, according to the label, made from 45+ year-old vines. But unfortunately not a lot going on in this wine. Clean and pleasant prune/berry flavors with some distant (but not catastrophic) stewed vegetable notes. Full and warm mouth feel from the alcohol, but not remotely in the same class as their excellent '98 Monte Rosso Zin from Sonoma. Cost $23 in a restaurant, undoubtedly available for $10 or so retail, and at that price a fair deal. - WB Team 2000-09-06 [Back] |
