1999 Villa Mt Eden Chardonnay "Grand Reserve" Bien Nacido Vineyard Santa Maria Valley, California WB Rating: 86 Alcohol by volume: 14.5% Price at time of purchase: $12.00 (K&L) Type: Chardonnay Principal varietal(s): Chardonnay This Chardonnay displays a toasty, buttery nose with flavors of macerated white fruits, vanilla, and roasted nuts. Good acid balance keeps the wine lively even at this "advanced" age, but we'd be inclined to drink it up in the near future. Very good Chardonnay buy, though at this tasting we found the '99 less compelling than the '98. - WB team 2003-03-14 [Back] |

[MrMunn 2003-06-17] Not much into Chards but I really liked this buttery, mild, oaky Chard on a hot day. Absent any of that whimpy lemony, citrusy aftertaste. Wonderful value at (I think) $9. Nice mouth -filling wine for a white. User Rating: 89. |
