1998 Vina Alarba Old Vines Grenache Calatayud, Aragon, Spain WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $8.00 (Current release) Type: Spanish red Principal varietal(s): 100% Grenahce From 50 year old vines grown at 2500 feet altitude in Catalonia. Delicious, heady, fruit-focused wine with a nicely perfumed nose and mouth-coating flavors of kirsch, plum, and ground pepper. Nice balance, nice finish. How anybody can make wine this good, ship it across the ocean, pay import duties, and still charge under $10 is a miracle. This is so much better than you typically get for this price that it's ridiculous. - WB Team 2000-07-27 [Back] |
