2006 Woodenhead Pinot Noir Buena Tierra Vineyard Russian River, Sonoma, CA WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 14.5% Price at time of purchase: $55.00 (from winery) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir Big, virile Pinot Noir, still youthful and even a bit hot and alcoholic at age 7. Earthy, musky Pinot flavors whose profile tends more to the super-ripe strawberry and plum/prune than cherry, with a hefty dose of mocha and brown spice and a touch of cola. Fairly high acid level that's mostly tamed by the depth of fruit; overall good balance of tannins, fruit, acid. Not nearly as compelling as the 2007 Buena Tierra, but an exceptional Pinot nonetheless. - HK 2013-03-21 [Back] |
